So Twitopia is going nuts about this upcoming nail art exhibition featuring established nail artists such as Marian Newman, Sophy Robson, Sam Biddle, Mike Pocock, Megumi Mizuno, Antony Buckley, Jenny Longworth, Sue Marsh, Kirsty Meaks and The Illustrated Nail.
I am ESPECIALLY excited to see nails by Marian Newman who is a nail genius. I can actually say I've had my nails done by 'La Marian' last year at the CND Shellac launch. She is as talented as she is a patient teacher.
Other artists to see....
See you there
Apologies for the very shaky camera, we filmed this tutorial impromptu in my kitchen on a sunny saturday before dinner. Enjoy.
It takes a lot for me to do anything with my hair. I talk about doing all sorts to my hair especially cutting it or growing an afro, but everyone who knows me knows it won't happen.
Growing an afro for many women of African descent may be a tiresome ordeal. Most black women have relaxed hair. This is a term used to describe how afro hair is permanently straightened with chemicals. The new hair that grows through is still curly and so to maintain straight hair, it has to be constantly touched up every 6-8weeks!! This is done much like a hair colour has to be touched up. Relaxing can be expensive and isn't great for your hair if done too regularly. Which is why I've been considering rocking an afro for the past few years.
My 'Relaxed' Hair
I stumbled on a young woman from the US of A who did the BIG CHOP, as they call it (cutting off the relaxed hair so that the curly afro hair is all you have). Seeing pictures of her short curly afro hair inspired me to grow my afro back. However I thought I could just grow my relaxed hair out. I just wouldn't put any more relaxer in my hair and with time my curly hair would grow through. I even tried some transition styles (hair styles designed to keep you looking funky while you 'transition' from relaxed to natural hair)
Didn't like that so much....so I cut it OFF!!!
Yes, I finally decided to become a curly chic! And how liberating?!
The purpose of this post is to show the lady who inspired the movement for me.....Ms Nikki Mae.
Her videos are fun and light hearted and her blog is full of information. I've put all her details at the end of the post so check her out.

This is our first of what we hope to be many posts about inspirational women.
The first, of course, is a fellow Nigerian with European Heritage, Mrs Nike Ogunlesi, owner of Ruff 'n' Tumble.
In this video Mrs Ogunlesi speaks on starting up her business, the trials of running a business in Lagos and the future of Ruff 'n' Tumble
People like Mrs Nike Ogunlesi allow us as women and Nigerians to hold our heads up and be proud. I love her can-do attitude, her grace, her enthusiasm, her strong national identity and her honest pragmatism. Ladies you don't need to look as far as Oprah, and you may graciously ignore the Lagos 'BIGZ' girls parading malls pretending they know anything about business.
Mrs Nike Ogunlesi is the realest!
If the movie is as scrumptious as these colours then Disney has hit a proverbial gold rush. Or shall I say 'Silver"? The Silver Shatter is a fabulous metallic version of Black Shatter. This collection includes subtle hues of pink, lavender and sage that evoke the pretty understated feel of spring/summer. And in true OPI style, of course the names are as tongue-in-cheek as you could possibly imagine.
Lacquer names, from l-r:
Silver Shatter, Skull & Glossbones, Sparrow Me the Drama, Steady as She Rose, Planks A Lot, Stranger Tides and Mermaids Tears.
